Listening to Neil Young in a restaurant in Tel Aviv. Can’t remember the name of the song, but it’s from Harvest.

View of Jerusalem, the old city, from the Mount of Olives.

Today we learned about the significance of various religious sites for Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

We climbed Masada today.

Wiki:

"Masada (Hebrew מצדה, pronounced Metzada , from מצודה, metzuda, "fortress") is the name for a site of ancient palaces and fortifications in the Southern District of Israel, on top of an isolated rock plateau, or horst, on the eastern edge of the Judaean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea. Masada is best known for the violence that occurred there in the first century CE. In the final accords of the First Jewish–Roman War, the Siege of Masada by troops of the Roman Empire led to the mass suicide of the Sicarii rebels. Masada is located at 31°18’56"N, 35°21’14"E, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Arad."

Installation number 1 of the “been there, coloured that” series includes the ruins of a Jewish village. This is apparently what a Jewish village looked like at the time of Jesus. I think I coloured this scene in Grade 4 maybe, judging from the degree of difficulty.

I’m reading the Jerusalem Post. Hot weather today. Israel is a small country. The trip from Tel Aviv to Tiberias is less than 2 hours and, for those familiar with travel distances in Ontario, Canada, this would be like driving from Kingston to Ottawa but, with Camels to look at, instead of cows.

Mediterranean Morning

I’m up, it’s 430 am here. We had a good evening in Tel Aviv. We ate dinner at a sea food place and I had fish out of the Mediterranean Sea, plus a few Israeli brews! We walked back along the beach path, which is winding and made of stone. Several lit beach VBall courts were in use. We’ll leave Tel Aviv today, but will be back here for a few days in a week and a half.

Tel Aviv is about as free as it gets in the middle east. It is known as, I think, the New York city of the middle east. This morning we will start heading north, through the desert towards the Sea of Galilee.

A few weeks back I headed to the cabin to take down a cedar. I used some of that beautiful wood to cook a steak, on my pale blue dot.
